The Most Famous Fictional Horse of the Century!
When Walter Farley was a boy, his greatest dream was to own a horse; a wish that couldn't come true on the streets of New York City. So, to satisfy those childhood longings, he began to write, drawing on experiences he had with an uncle, who was a noted horse trainer. He wrote and rewrote The Black Stallion, the adventure of a boy named Alec Ramsay, who, together with a horse, survived a shipwreck. The story immediately appealed to readers when the book was first published by Random House in 1941, and is now considered a contemporary classic. The magnificent "black" fulfilled a universal fantasy of childhood and became one of literature's most famous fictional horses.
What's New!

Walter Farley's "Black Stallion and the Girl" and "Black Stallion Legend" will soon be re-released!

Black Stallion and the Girl - Alec Ramsay has a hard time persuading his partners to retain the girl he hires as a trainer and an even harder time convincing them to let her race the Black Stallion when Alec is suspended as a jockey.

The Black Stallion Legend - The black stallion helps save an Indian tribe during a time of disaster, thereby fulfilling an ancient prophecy.

Books that appeal to any age...
When Walter Farley first published "The Black Stallion" back in 1941, I don't think he then realized what a hold his books would have on so many children and adults for decades to come!

I first read one of his books when I was eight, and I have been hooked ever since. Not only did Walter Farley spark my interest in horses, he instilled in me a love of the noble Arab horse that will never die.
